to slowly blossom
The posture that we see in the mirror today took years to construct. When we first learned to crawl and stand our lower back muscles couldn't support us. We used our quadriceps as our main support. Watch the toddler standing, with their flat back.
Over the years our posture developed, changed. Through years of desk use and other furniture. Through the socialization of the mirror image and popular culture, we developed ourselves. We developed the way that we customarily use our body. Most often in our modern culture, the way that we are using our body is not optimal, and can be both painful and potentially damaging.
To get to a place where your body is being used most efficiently, where your pelvis is free and your head balances on top of the spine; you must unfold slowly.
The Mitzvah Technique is so simple. Sometimes too simple. It is a rippling motion. An exercise to teach your body a rippling motion. But where this can take you is anything but simple. When the body is free, when the blood can circulate more freely, healing can take place.
Throughout November free workshops are being offered in the Annex, near Dupont Station. Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
December 1st we leave Toronto, driving to Vancouver.

Using the image of the flame
Standing in the subway I focused my mind to the image of a flame. Allowing my body to dance, softly, like a flame escaping the campfire.
I imagined for a moment that I was a wood-burning stove, warming my community, dancing.
