Free Workshops are being offered throughout November.
I've been delighted by everyone who's come to my workshops. Its just amazing the people that I've had the opportunity to meet and talk to.
I'm offering free workshop - take this opportunity to learn more about posture. Learn exercises designed to bring balance to your body, unlocking your pelvis to allow a natural rippling motion to travel up your spine and ultimately unlock your head so that it can balance freely.

to slowly blossom
The posture that we see in the mirror today took years to construct. When we first learned to crawl and stand our lower back muscles couldn't support us. We used our quadriceps as our main support. Watch the toddler standing, with their flat back.
Over the years our posture developed, changed. Through years of desk use and other furniture. Through the socialization of the mirror image and popular culture, we developed ourselves. We developed the way that we customarily use our body. Most often in our modern culture, the way that we are using our body is not optimal, and can be both painful and potentially damaging.
To get to a place where your body is being used most efficiently, where your pelvis is free and your head balances on top of the spine; you must unfold slowly.
The Mitzvah Technique is so simple. Sometimes too simple. It is a rippling motion. An exercise to teach your body a rippling motion. But where this can take you is anything but simple. When the body is free, when the blood can circulate more freely, healing can take place.
Throughout November free workshops are being offered in the Annex, near Dupont Station. Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
December 1st we leave Toronto, driving to Vancouver.

Using the image of the flame
Standing in the subway I focused my mind to the image of a flame. Allowing my body to dance, softly, like a flame escaping the campfire.
I imagined for a moment that I was a wood-burning stove, warming my community, dancing.

Awareness
I distinctly remember going to an appointment with my teacher and complaining of a sore neck. She asked me what I had done, and I told her that I didn't know.
Her gentle words somehow led me to the realization that I needed to be aware of my body movements at all times. Its a huge project, but the intention is deeply important. Knowing what my body is doing. Therefore, not crossing my legs or ankles while I sit at the computer.

Make every moment an exercise.
Years ago in Japan I was riding the train with one of my Mitzvah teachers, he never sat. He explained to us that he was trying to make each moment an exercise.
Taking a Pause
Its so important that we take time to pause. Our body needs time to readjust. When you practice the exercises at home: remember to pause. Walk around the room slowly, allow more changes to take place. Observe. Experience. Breath.

Gentle Diet
Memories or emotions may be released, you may experience digestive change or changes in your skin. This is a natural, normal part of the healing journey.
A simple, wholesome diet is one way to give your body the space and energy it needs to effectively digest what is being released.
Eating small meals at regular times is often a good recipe to follow. Another good recipe is called Kitchari. Here is a helpful link: http://www.ayurveda.com/online_resource/kitchari_recipe.htm
This can be a simple meal to prepare. I've recently bought a great thermos that we plan to use as a slow cooker. With some simple prep we can eat hot, freshly cooked Kitchari on the road, as we drive back to BC.

Postural Therapy
The Mitzvah Technique - A simple exercise designed to re-enliven a healing mechanism in the spine and allow the body to unwind, finding authentic balance. Its about re-patterning the body.
Come and expand your spine, make space, breath, allow your body to be tall.
Learn a new way to stand, a new way to sit, mindful, slow and watchful. Learning a new pattern to support what will soon become a new posture.
